VIDEO: July 4th Fireworks A Blast For New Bern, Washington Crowds

All eyes were to the sky Wednesday night in Washington and New Bern for Independence Day fireworks displays.

In Washington, fireworks went off on schedule at 9:15 along the Stewart Parkway over the water. It capped a day of activities there, including a concert by Spare Change, a patriotic boat parade, cornhole tournament, and a hot dog eating contest. People also lined Highway 17 on foot and in their cars to get a glimpse of the action.

A full day of events in New Bern concluded with a spectacular fireworks display. Events kicked off Wednesday morning at 7:30 a.m. with a 5K race and 1 mile fun run. Kids enjoyed bounce houses, a giant slide and obstacle courses at Lawson Creek Park and even a misting tent to help keep cool.

The Declaration of Independence was read at 7:00 p.m. followed by patriotic music. Fireworks kicked off around 9 p-m.
