Trooper: Driver Hits Guard Rail, Ends Up In Creek

A young man is recovering after his car hit a guard rail, went through the median and landed in a small creek between two bridges on Highway 264 between Greenville and Washington Tuesday morning.

Trooper Michael Potter told WITN News 18-year-old Matthew Weed of Whitakers had his seat belt on and is expected to be okay, though he was being treated at the hospital. Whitakers is located on the Nash-Edgecombe county line.

Potter said the two bridges in Pitt County do need some repair work following the crash. The trooper said Weed may have fallen asleep and a charge is pending.
