The Teacher of the Week for Tuesday, December 31, 2013 is Laurie Lietz from Washington High School.
Laurie has been teaching students in the special education program at Washington High School for nine years. She graduated with her BA in Special Education at Wayne State in Detroit, Michigan.
Laurie says the most fulfilling part of her job is "watching the student growth and working toward their potential."
A parent of a student in Laurie's class nominated her, saying "Mrs. Lietz is a very wonderful teacher. Our daughter has learned so much from her. She is being taught how to cook, they go swimming every week and also go out to eat once a week. These kids are being taught how to pay for their items among other things. This is a challenging class to teach. I praise her for all her hard work on teaching these children life skills. If any teacher deserves this award, it should be Mrs. Lietz. If any parent who has a handicapped child knows how difficult it is to teach these kids. She is a delight to have in our school system. "
