State water quality officials Thursday lifted a water quality swimming alert for an area on the Pamlico River.
Additional testing shows bacteria levels at the Ragged Point Swim Area near Washington have dropped below the state and federal standards set for swimming and water play.
Tests on Tuesday showed the site had exceeded bacteria standards, but new tests now show the water is safe to swim in.
