Strong Storm Hits Northern Pitt County

Authorities say a strong storm has struck northern Pitt County. Emergency Manager Director Noel Lee reported to the National Weather Service that straight-line winds were responsible for the damage.

Power lines are down in the Stokes area and a school bus was blocked by debris for a short time.

Firefighters say a piece of a barn's roof blew off and it struck a power line. A Pitt County school bus just happened to be there and could not turn around with the debris blocking the road.

Highway 30 in the Stokes area was closed while crews worked to repair the downed lines. That road is open once again.

Emergency Management Director Noel Lee says a pack house had its roof blown off, while another old building had material blown from it as well. That debris struck the power lines. A car shed also fell on top of a car.

Greenville Utilities says no one actually lost power as the two lines brought down were neutral lines. Those lines have since been repaired.
