Sex Offender Charged In Chocowinity

A registered sex offender is back behind bars today on several charges, including living too close to a middle school.

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office says they arrested 48 year old Harley Ray Alligood, Jr. He's charged with second degree burglary, larceny after breaking and entering, possession of a firearm by a felon, failure to report change of address, and sex offender residential restriction violation.

Deputies say the investigation into Alligood started with a breaking and entering into a home on Molly Lane in Washington on January 18. Lawmen say when they made contact with their possible suspect, they were able to see items stolen from the house on Molly Lane inside the suspect's home.

Further investigation revealed their suspect was also a registered sex offender who was not living at his registered address. Convicted sex offenders are required to notify law enforcement of any change in their address. The law also prohibits them from living within 1,000 feet of a school or child care facility. Lawmen say Alligood was also in violation of living too close to Chocowinity Middle School..

When lawmen executed a search warrant on Alligood's home, deputies say they recovered stolen property and other evidence.

Alligood had already been jailed on a previous probation violation when deputies served him with the new criminal charges. He remains in the Beaufort County Detention Center on an additional $25,000 bond, and lawmen expect to file more charges against him.

A registered sex offender can only live 1000 feet away from a school or daycare facility? WOW our judicial system lets the law abiding citizen down. If I knew a sex offender came on to school grounds and assaulted a child or worse I would be enraged to know they were allowed to live outside of the "only" 1000 feet.

For your information, I am not crazy, I have not upheld your daddy, which is my brother for anything he has done ever. and he does deserve to serve time for what he has done, think of your grandmama who loved you as you were growing up, and how much she did love you no matter what you did, but she still loved you, just like she still loved your daddy, so when you pass your opinions please think of her Don't need your forgiveness, I have God for that

I will admit, he is my father. But I am certainly not upset over him being in jail, he needs to stay there. My aunt Donna is crazy. Please forgive her. The things shes written speak for itself.

This news is just so alarming and everyone should be vigilant enough especially the younger ones. I am a parent and I'm worried that any kid can just be a victim. As a way of helping everyone especially the parents, who find it quite hard to manage time, I found this great application which featured a safety app which gets me connected to a Safety Network or escalate my call to the nearest 911 when needed, it has other cool features that are helpful for your kids with just a press of a Panic Button. Check it here:

Be sure to open your closet doors. so all your skeketons can fall out, maybe God will then answer your prayers, you don't judge other people, that is Gods job not yours or mine.

Take a gander at the Old Testament...very cleary, God has given us the right to be judge, jury, and executioner. Lucky for your brother, we've done away with burying people up to their necks and stoning them to death. Ex: 21:15 thru Ex: 22:20 and Lev: 20:10-15 and Deut: 22:25...may want to check out those parts of the Bible before assuming.

to whom it may concern, harley ray alligood is our brother and our family is very upset about wwhat he has done, we have all done wrong in life including myself, but one sure thing about it,God forgives everyone for the bad things we do if we dso better. Our mother is gone to be with my dad and Jesus, so if you can say anything as to her concerns, be man or woman enough to put your name beside it so you can be judged for your criminal activity if you dont any dont worry about just leave your comments to yourself he will be taken care of in Gods eyes

Harley Ray has done absolutely nothing productive with his life. He stole from his mama and drained whatever he could get from the family. Wake up! When will enough be enough.

My first thought is as a sex offender, shouldn't his probation officer been aware of where he was living? Secondly, thanks for getting this horrible person off of the streets and back in jail where he so rightfully belongs.

Got to love how there aren't any race driven comments on this post, being it's a white man. If this was a Black Man, in this same situation, there would be all types of racist hateful remarks.
