Students in Beaufort County will be heading to school Monday morning at the regular time. The school system has put on hold a plan to extend the day by 10 minutes.
The snow make-up plan was supposed to start Monday, but the school district is delaying it "in response to concerns and possible misunderstandings."
The school system says those concerns will be resolved during Monday night's school board meeting. It says no new schedule will go into effect until March 3rd.
The school board is also expected to vote on a plan to have teachers in the classrooms for seven straight Saturdays, making up for their lost time due to the snow.
Beaufort County Schools will add 10 minutes to the beginning of each school day beginning Monday, February 24th in order to make up time missed during recent inclement weather. But teachers could end up going on Saturdays.
The extra 10 minutes will be in effect for the rest of the year. But that will not make up for all the time the teachers missed, so there is a proposal to have them go on Saturdays.
In an email from superintendent Dr. Don Phipps to teachers, he wrote, "Using the feedback from you on our surveys and in response to many messages from teachers, we will ask the BOE to allow us to set aside Saturdays from March 1-April 12 as OPTIONAL teacher workdays. The schedule will be 8:00AM-12:30PM. Although the day will be abbreviated, it will count as a full day for makeup purposes. If a person wants to take leave on those days, the leave will be for a full day. The optional teacher workdays will be: March 1, March 8, March 15, March 22, March 29, April 5, and April 12."
WITN has been receiving feedback from teachers and spouses of teachers upset about the Saturday plan.
The Beaufort County Board of Education is scheduled to vote on the plan Monday night.
