NEW INFO: Aurora Man Found Dead In Submerged Car

Troopers in Beaufort County said a passing driver noticed a car submerged in water off Idalia Road, and troopers arrived to a gruesome discovery.

Trooper C.E. Ashley said he got the call at 9:15 Sunday night about a vehicle in water on Idalia Road near West Road in Aurora.

Once on scene, Trp. Ashley said crews discovered a body inside the fully submerged Ford Fusion.

That driver has now been identified as 57-year-old Dennis Fonville of Aurora.

Investigators believe speed was a factor in this deadly wreck as Fonville drove left of the center line, hit an embankment then went into the water.

For now, troopers said they cannot determine if the impact of the crash or drowning led to the man's death. They are also awaiting a toxicology screen before completing their investigation.

No one else was inside the vehicle at the time of the wreck, according to Trp. Ashley.
