A New York man and woman are dead after his vehicle was driving down US 17 without an headlights Sunday night in Beaufort County.
The Highway Patrol says it happened just before 9:00 p.m. when a pickup truck pulled out onto the highway at Wharton Station Road and didn't see the oncoming car.
Hilton and Mary Stilley were killed. Before she died, the woman told troopers that the alternator had gone out, causing the headlights to stop working. The 76-year-old man died Sunday night, while the passenger passed away Monday morning.
Three people in the pickup truck were taken to Vidant Medical Center, including a four year old child. Troopers say the truck hit the left, front quarter of vehicle.
Troopers say no alcohol was involved and everyone was wearing their seatbelts.
