National Weather Service Says Beaufort Co. Tornadoes Are Abnormal

The latest tornadoes on Friday in Beaufort County came just weeks after other tornadoes ripped through there.

The National Weather Service says April is the most active month for tornadoes.

Robert Frederick, a senior forecaster with the NWS in Newport, says the jet stream is very active this year. While wild weather can be expected, Frederick says Friday's twisters were the second this month in Beaufort County which is abnormal.

Experts at East Carolina University also mapped out two locations that get the most and biggest tornadoes in our state since 1950. One area is a line impacting the deep inland areas of Eastern Carolina. The other is down by Charlotte.
