The man accused of trying to kill his is estranged girlfriend in front of ten customers at a Belhaven convenience store in now behind bars.

Officials at the Beaufort County Detention Center say 56-year-old Donnie Blount, Sr. was booked there just before 9:30 p.m. Monday. It appears that bond had not yet been set early Tuesday morning, according to officials.

Belhaven police say Blount fire one shot at the woman standing behind the counter inside the Wilco-Hess gas station on West Main Street around 7:30 p.m. Sunday. She ducked, police said, and wasn't injured. Blount then ran from the store.

Police took out warrants to arrest Blount for attempted first degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, possession of firearm by a felon, injury to real property, and discharging a weapon in town limits.

Belhaven police say it happened around 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Wilco-Hess gas station on West Main Street.

They say 56-year-old Donnie Blount, Sr. walked in the store with a sawed-off shotgun and pointed it in the face of his ex-girlfriend, who was standing behind the counter. She was not injured.

Police say he fired one shot, she ducked and then Blount ran out of the store.

About ten people were inside the business and identified Blount as the shooter, according to Chief F.P. Clingenpeel.

The chief says they're looking for Blount and consider him armed and dangerous. There are warrants for his arrest for attempted first degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, possession of firearm by a felon, injury to real property, and discharging a weapon in town limits.
