Three Dead, At Least 40 Hurt In Eastern Carolina

Three people are dead and at least 40 people hurt following Sunday's storms.

According to emergency officials, two people were killed when a tree fell on their golf cart near Blounts Creek in Beaufort County. Deputies say 61-year-old David Harris and his 58-year-old wife, Carol, were killed. The two are from Pitt County, but had a vacation spot on Gillead Shores Road.

Bobby Daniels was with the couple when the tragic accident happened. "We [were] going up the hill, and the storm came up and the tree blew right on top of them. I was probably 50 feet behind them, and there was nothing [anyone] could do," Daniels said.

Officials also report at least 40 people were injured in Beaufort County during the storms.

In Pitt County, officials say a shed fell on 77-year-old William Henry Adams while he was trying to put his ATV into storage. He lived on Bill Adams Rd. just off Highway 43 near Calico. The victim's son says Adams was outside with his granddaughter when she warned him the weather was getting bad. The shed reportedly collapsed in the wind as soon as Adams went inside of it.
