Beaufort County Animal Control authorities are warning of a confirmed case of a rabid raccoon.
The raccoon was found on Asbury Church Road near River Road. Rabies was confirmed by the state lab.
Authorities are concerned because this is a populated area.
There has been no human or animal exposure as far as authorities know.
There have been several cases of rabies in the eastern part of the county in more rural sections this year, but this is the first is a more highly populated area.
Authorities urge you to get your pets vaccinated. The vaccination is required by state law.
