The project to bring a wind farm to Beaufort County has been delayed for concerns about the local bird population.
Invergy released a statement saying additional studies are needed to determine the impact of the Pantego Wind Farm project in Beaufort County on the region's bird population. Fish and Wildlife Service officials have said predicted bald eagle deaths could prove abnormally high.
Projected bird strikes was one of the reasons the Navy scrapped plans for an outlying landing field in Beaufort and Washington counties.
The Invergy statement says it remains confident "that a full, fair and factual study" will show that the project will protect and conserve the area's wildlife.
On Tuesday, the company would not comment on the record to WITN about whether the project was dead.
