A father has been charged with DWI after deputies say he led them on a chase last Friday with his three kids in the vehicle.
Shykeem Moore of Washington has been charged with felony flee to elude arrest, resisting a public officer, driving while impaired and driving while license revoked.
Deputies say it happened around 12:15 a.m. Friday morning when a deputy saw the man's vehicle make an unsafe movement on Highway 264, west of Washington. The deputy says the vehicle wouldn't stop and first struck the median after turning onto Flanders Filters Road. The vehicle then turned onto Oscar Lane and recklessly accelerated through large potholes.
Deputies say the driver eventually jumped out of the vehicle with it still in gear and the children inside. Witnesses say the man ran into some nearby woods.
The deputy contacted the driver by phone and asked him to return to his vehicle. They say Moore was muddy and scratched on his face and arms.
Moore was jailed on a $20,000 secured bond while the children were left in the custody of their mothers. Deputies say they seized the man's vehicle and that the Department of Social Services has been contacted about the case as well.
Moore was out on probation at the time of his arrest for a larceny conviction earlier this year from Beaufort County .
