Beaufort County Deputies Investigating Suspicious Fire

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fire that started in a camper then spread to a boat in Chocowinity.

Officials say the call came in around 10:30 pm Tuesday night that there was a camper on fire off of Old New Bern Road, which is off of Highway 17 in Chocowinity. Fire crews say the fire spread from the camper to a boat, but luckily no one was inside at the time.

Major Kenneth Watson says the fire is considered suspicious. The camper and a nearby boat were a total loss. The owners say there's been a rise in crime in the area lately. They estimate their loss at around $50,000.

Sorry for your loss. I do hope they find the person or persons responsible for your loss as well. I do agree with you that most people try and find fought with the ones that are trying to help you in your time of need. Usually it is the same posters posting negative comments not just on one story but on all stories. I wish they would do away with it all together. What good does it do anyway?

As the owner of the camper i should not be saying anything but i cant sit here and read this garbage without saying something to the fools that are trying to make this political instead of what it really is. I do not know Sheriff Jordan personaly but i do thank him and his officers for the time and interest that they have shown in this horrible crime. I feel if this had happen to any of you,you would feel the same. But it is easy for you to sit on your couch and complain. God forbid this should ever happen to you are anyone you know. Just be thankful that at least we have someone that is trying to do something. Now that i have said my little piece you can now start complaining about what i have said and the bad spelling and the bad grammer or anything else you would like to whine about but just remember God forbid that this would happen to you.

This isn't a debate about BCSO. This is about a neighborhood being takin over by a thug who needs to get a job. They will get caught sooner or later by the BCSO of residents in the area!!!

Just wanted to add, to the post that place is locked down liked fort Knox, and it would do no good to go to the SO and speak in person, because the great man is never there. He's at Barnes and Nobles!

Last time I checked this was a free forum, to post on, that place is the most crooked hated Law Enforcement Agency in the state of NC, shame he didn't get his way with retiring, and putting dumb or dumber as Sheriff! To quote a county commissioner, the BCSO is the scariest law enforcement agency i've ever seen,

I also live in that neighborhood and have not heard of any crime until this. If there has been more crime the sheriff's dept. needs to let us know so we can be on the look out. I hope they find the person or person's that did this.

Really suprised that God Jordan allowed his deputies to investigate this crime, other tax paying citizens of the county are getting letters, that state, the Sheriffs Office doesn't have the resources to investigate their crime, if anyone has gotten one recently share with us.

Why Bring YOUR problems to a unrelated story and try and bash such a great man. If You Have so many problems with this man or his department maybe you should take it up with him IN PERSON at his office instead of trying to start rumors and stir drama....

Your Ignorance Cracks Me Up , the back door is locked for saftey of the deputies and dispatchers inside , and as far as the front desk i would assume you would wait at the counter like any other person. They also have phone numbers and emails if you really have something worth complaining about...which i highly doubt. go find some other story you can post your nonsense on.

I am sure the BCSO is real proud of your comments. They do sound elementary. I do hope you do not work for the BCSD for I know my complaint would not be taken seriously by the attitude you have displayed in your comments. You have called and accused someone of starting rumors, stirring drama, ignorant, and doubting the worth of their complaint, if they should have to call the BCSD. I do not think you are a good spoke person. Have a nice evening.

Thank you all for the help and quick response. We are truly grateful. You stopped the fire from reaching the house next to it where three beautiful kids were sleeping.

I'm also in this area and would like to know what other crimes have been committed within a 5 mile radius of this location. Can WITN provide that?

There have been several larcenies and syphoning of gas in this area. The individuals who are doing it keep doing it because they are not getting caught. It's only a matter of time before somebody takes the law into their own hands.
