The NC DOT says the construction of a superstreet at U.S. 264 and Asbury Church Road in Beaufort County is scheduled to be finished December 23rd.
Crews are pouring the new curb this week.
The DOT says the superstreets help manage traffic congestion by requiring traffic entering a divided highway to turn right and do a U-turn instead of turning left or driving straight across the intersection. Officials say at first, this may seem to be a complex solution to a very simple objective; however, when designed correctly, is actually a simple and safe solution to the problems caused by congestion.
Motorists traveling on Asbury Church Road wanting to turn left onto U.S. 264 will have to take a right and use the turn-around to head in the desired direction.
The work is part of a $348,080 contract awarded to Greenville Paving of Greenville in October to create the superstreet concept.
