Beaufort County Man Charged With Illegally Killing Swans

A Beaufort County man is facing charges for killing more than a dozen swans in neighboring Hyde County.

NC Wildlife Master Officer Robert Wayne says Steven Price had a license to bag one Tundra Swan, but shot 14. He was arrested Wednesday.

Price is charged with exceeding the seasonal bag limit of a migratory waterfowl by 13, failure to tag migratory waterfowl at site of kill, and possession of unlawfully taken game.

Wayne says Price was hunting on private land, south of Pungo Lake in the western part of the county.

Wayne says the replacement cost is $1078 per bird. If convicted, Price could be fined $14,014 for the 13 illegal killed birds. He could also lose his hunting license for one year for the class 2 misdemeanor.

Price lives in the Pamlico Beach area with a Belhaven address listed on the citation.
