A 18-year-old motorcyclist died after troopers say he was thrown about 100 feet off his bike after crashing into a culvert late last night.
It happened around 11:25 p.m. Wednesday in Beaufort County.
Sgt. Tim Crumpler tells WITN that Zachary Albee of Beaufort County was traveling south on Taylor Road, just outside of Chocowinity, when witnesses say he crossed the center line, over-corrected, struck a driveway culvert and hit an utility pole. Witnesses say they could see flames coming for the motorcycle after impact.
Albee was thrown from the 1997 Honda motorcycle and was pronounced dead on the scene. Sgt. Crumpler says no other vehicles were involved and that speed was a factor in the crash.
