Arrest Made In Beaufort County Church AC Thefts

Beaufort County deputies say Mark Heppler is accused of stealing air conditioning units from seven area churches.

There could be a break in a rash of air conditioner thefts that have plagued Eastern Carolina churches. A New Bern man is accused of stealing the units from seven Beaufort County churches.

Deputies have arrested Mark Heppler back on November 5th for one church theft in the Aurora area and then further investigation led to six more charges for thefts in the Bath, Washington, Edwards, Pantego and Blounts Creek areas.

During the past several there have been dozen of copper thefts from church air conditioning units in Beaufort, Craven, Jones, Lenoir, Martin and Pitt counties.

Heppler is being held on a $50,000 bond and deputies say additional arrests are expected.

    Mark, I do not know you, but I am praying for you man. You made a mistake now is the time that Christian people should reach out to you and try to help. Instead of stealing from churches. . .find one somewhere and go inside. Give it a chance man. . turn you life around. We have all made mistakes and it's never too late to change.

    Gracie... If stealing from a church would scare you, then you should know there's no excuse for theft of this sort. Who cares that he learned it from someone else? If someone offered to teach you how to be murderer, would you take them up on it? No. He made his choices. I'm sick of hearing people excuse bad behavior with "they're human". It's as bad as the race card.

    I am glad they caught this guy. I make my living hauling scrap metal and guys like him gives us honest guys a black eye. Some states you can't sell scrap metals just because of idiots like him. Honest recyclers help clean up the environment and reduce the need for new mines and landfills. Thank you, thumbs up Beaufort county sheriffs dept.
