Washington Bank Robbed

Police say they caught the man who robbed a bank branch Tuesday morning in Washington.

It happened around 9:50 a.m. at the First South Bank on John Small Avenue.

Charged with armed robbery is James Haywood of Washington.

Police say the money from the robbery was recovered and Haywood is in jail on a $50,000 bond.

Police say the bank robber made his getaway on a bicycle. Chief Mick Reed told WITN News that thanks to tips from citizens they were quickly able to catch Haywood in the area of Village Circle.

No one was hurt in the robbery.

I know that man, he dates my sister in law. This man was not taken his meds right and didn't know what he was doing. He gave the teller his ID, he did not have a gun.If the guy was right in the head he would not have give the teller his ID and try to get away on a bike. This man and girlfriend was robbed at gun point in the past in there home, they were tied up and were beat up bad. The guy never got over it. About that welfare money someone was talking about, the man is disabled and not have much money. I know what its like cause I am on medical leave from my job and I don't get enough money and food to last through the month. I hang my head in shame and hurt cause my 15 year old son begs people for work so he can take care of us. I beg my doctor to let me go back to work. Almost a year me and my son have to live like poor trash with people looking down on us. It can make a person go crazy. I have thought of robbing a bank too

$50K bond for a crime that gets 7 years mandatory. Yeah, makes sense to me. Getaway on a bicycle? Funny. I think this guy just wanted to beat the heat and live off the taxpayer for awhile.

If it weren't for the 2 gentlemen that followed him , the WPD wouldn't have been able to make an arrest. WPD would still be looking.

OH, I am SOOOO glad I do not live near that part of town. I live in Washington Park and I do not even stop in that area to shop. Even Walmart is questionable.
