Dority Wins Republican Congressional Runoff

A security consultant from Beaufort County is the winner of the Republican primary runoff in the 12th Congressional District for the right to take on Democratic Rep. Mel Watt in the fall.

Greg Dority of Washington defeated Scott Cumbie in GOP runoff Tuesday.

With 99 percent of the precincts reporting, Dority received 52 percent of the vote while Cumbie had 48 percent. He previously ran for Congress in the 1st Congressional District and for lieutenant governor.

Watt is the only person who has represented the 12th District since it was created after the 1990 census.

The 12th stretches along Interstate 85 from Charlotte to Winston-Salem.

Dority lives about three hours away from the district.

Well, you voted youself out of office Mel; "I don't see how we can get our arms around the rising cost of health care without some kind of universal coverage plan that provides basic critical health services to all citizens. A big part of that plan must be providing incentives for people to prevent health conditions that can be prevented. That would help force people away from getting basic health services in emergency rooms in the most costly and least efficient way." Mel Watt

To DDR, as long as that's true, then he should not have the right to run for a political position. He would not get my vote in that case. I live in a different district anyways so it does not matter.

He doesn't stand a chance with da brudda's in da hood. The 12th district was drawn just so people like Watt could win a seat. Same goes for the 1st district.

How do you run in a district when you live 3 hours away from it?

Good old Greg... I remember when used other students' IDs to vote for himself multiple times at NC State. (He pled guilty) He also stole 8000 copies of the university's newspaper because they endorsed another candidate. (also pled guilty)
