Three Students Arrested At Southside High School

Three students at a Beaufort County high school have been arrested, one of those on cocaine charges.

Deputies say a school resource officer at Southside High School got a Crime Stoppers tip that a student had drugs. Deputies say they found a plastic baggie containing a white powdery substance on the student who is under 16 years old. The juvenile was charged with possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

While at the school, deputies used their drug dog to perform a sweep of the rooms. During the check the dog hit on a student's pocketbook where they found a folding pocket knife. Chante Painter, 17, of Chocowinity was charged with misdemeanor possession of a weapon on school grounds.

Deputies say during the search another student became disorderly and assaulted an investigator. Shawn Mayo, 17, of Aurora, was charged with assault on a government official.

The Sheriff's Office says no pictures are available of any of those charged.

I think that you can not blame it all on the parents, children make their own decisions and yes their parent should watch them but if they are allowed to come right back to school then what are their consequences? None they have no punishement what so ever and I want to know why the one with cocaine's name wasn't realesed like the others?

LOL. Yeah lets keep these kids out of the paper and out of jail for this..GIVE ME A BREAK!!!! If there parents had done what they were suppose to do in the beginning then they would of not had the drug in the first place. You let them go and have there parents deal with it nothing will happen they will go back to school again and do it all over it..GIVE ME A BREAK PEOPLE!!!!

i agree with SHS student these kids are underage. let them be dealt with by there parents! i would not want my kids to be plasted all over the net by everyone to look and talk about. everyone makes mistakes and maybe these young kids will see there mistakes now and move forward!

The student who became disorderly should have stayed calm & cooperated. He got himself into more trouble by being disorderly & acting quilty. I would love to see more searches at school. Parents become more involved in your childrens life. It's not the teachers fault.

I would be looking into private school if I had a child this age. It is correct to say that a small # actually do this, but all it takes is one to bring a gun to school and it will then rain on the just and the unjust. Personally, I would like to see a drug dog once a week in schools walking and sniffing. The innocent certainly wouldn't mind.

How does a dog pick up a scent from a knife? i haven't seen a knife that produced a scent unless it had drug or explosives residue.

Where are the pictures of the students? If they can plaster pictures of NHS students all over the internet, then let's see 'em!

Keep in mind drugs and weapons are becoming a common occurrence in every school... But there ARE plenty of good students who don't get the recognition they deserve because of the idiotic ways of their classmates. ... And I will challenge any one who blames the teachers. Southside has amazing teachers and an incredible staff who care about their students on a level much deeper than that of how well they can perform academically.
