Elite Scouts Gather In Beaufort County

Boy Scouts from all over the our state have traveled to the east for a weekend long camping trip.

That celebration is for the Order of the Arrow--a special honor society within the Boy Scouts.

Nearly 1,200 scouts from all over the state traveled to the Boddie Campgrounds in Blounts Creek, Beaufort County Friday evening.

This weekend long camping trip started with a barbeque feast. Scouts are excited to take part in many activities on throughout the weekend.

The Order of the Arrow started in 1915 and only 10 percent of all Boy Scouts are inducted. The celebration is scheduled to go until Sunday afternoon.

I am so proud of my husband and son - both OA Vigil Honor members attending this event as campsite hosts. Both of my men exemplify every day what it means to be a member of BSA.

Very proud of my son and wife, both members of the OA and participating in the re-enactment ceremonies... chronicling the birth of scouting and its introduction to American and to Eastern North Carolina. Happy 100th birthday to scouting!
