A Williamston man is facing federal drug charges after his indictment.
Derrell Atkins of West Main Street was arrested March 24th on an eight count federal indictment on charges including possession with intent to manufacture sale or deliver cocaine, possession with intent to manufacture sale or deliver marijuana, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. His arrest was just announced Wednesday.
Authorities say Atkins' arrest followed a six month investigation by the Martin County Sheriff's Office, Williamston Police Department and the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Deputies say they began investigating when their Narcotics Unit received information that Atkins might be involved in the illegal sale and distribution of drugs in the Williamston area.
Atkins is being held in federal custody under no bond.
