BRRRR! Heating Problem Closes Down High School

A heating system problem forced the closure of Washington High School.

The high school dismissed at 12:30 p.m. Spokeswoman Sarah Hodges tells WITN News that an intermittent problem Monday morning with the school's heating system brought about the early closure.

Hodges says the problem is now fixed, but that it will take some time for the heat to build back up again so that is why classes were dismissed early.

That was good news for students.

"It was freezing," one student said. "It felt like we were outside!"

An alert from the school system Monday morning originally said the heating problem would be fixed by 9:00 a.m.

Darren: Actually... NO. lol Ever heard of Donner Pass? Beyond that, single storm snowfall record is 189" (that's 15') @ Mt Shasta Ski Bowl, CA Feb 13-15 1959. Most snow in a 24 hr day is 76" (that's over 6') @ Silver Lake, CO April 14-15, 1921. It's not unheard of in a bad storm to have 3-4' of snow in regions that have rough winters. I've seen it in Oklahoma, though a long time ago. Storms of that caliber don't happen every single year, and aren't as common now as they used to be, but it does happen. ;-)

I bet that was no fun to deal with. To Dominic the Christmas Donkey, I am guessing that you are from either Northern Alaska, the Arctic coastline of Russia, or perhaps the Norther edge of Scandanavia (Norway, Sweden, Finland). Nobody in the mainland U.S. I don't think has ever had snow as much as 4 1/2 feet.

What a bunch of sissies. Over a span of three days, it's not gonna get much colder than 50 degrees in an insulated building in this area, no matter how cold it gets outside. You people have no spine. Wimps. When I was a boy, we had to walk to school in chin-deep snow, uphill, both ways. Grow some vigor!

I agree with the mom. The Ed Tech Center heat has been without heat several times this winter but, there school did not close early. I think all BCS should be treated the same

This is exactly why I am so glad to be out of high school and moving on to better things! Beaufort County has always had way too much drama especially with the school system. One day you students will see that all this petty crap doesn't really matter.

sounds like a shovel ready job for stimulus money instead of using it for government employees in their cushy, non-firable jobs.

For been there-done that. 1. How was the overall weather worse for WHS? cause as I recall I didn't see you there, honey. 2. What time did they fix it at NHS? cause I sure didnt feel the heat. As of 12:30 at NHS when I was at lunch the heat had NOT been fixed. 3. It doesn't matter if it was a Monday or not it was COLD. There was no heat just like at WHS and you can't say that the heat went out this morning. I mean correct me if you were there at WHS today or yesterday or something when the heat went out. You don't know the exact time when it went out at either school. 4. Ya might wanna get your story straight before you get big britches and right what you think is right up here. I don't have a sour attitude, I just know some facts you didn't.

I was at NHS in the cold and it was FREEZING ALL day!!!!!! And the heat was out on a Monday let's get over it, it's done. Pretty crazy how adults can get so irate over one person stating their opinion but I still agree with the Mom.
