Annual Event Draws Wildlife, Decoy And Dog Lovers To Eastern Carolina

Hundresd of people are visiting Beaufort County this weekend for the
15th Annual East Carolina Wildlife Arts Festival and North Carolina Decoy Carving Championships.

According to tourism officials, the weekend long event is anchored at the Washington Civic Center, but venues throughout Washington will host activities like the Decoy Carving Championships, the Southern Classic Duck, Goose and Swan Calling Championships, and, for the first time in 2010, DockDogs.

Tourism officials say the East Carolina Wildlife Arts Festival, in its 15th year, has continued to grow each year. They say show coordinators Sandra and David Gossett spend the better part of the year coordinating details for the ever-growing event."

Below in information from a news release:

"Artists, carvers and exhibitors come from more than 20 states each year to showcase their passion for wildlife arts. Because of the renowned exhibitors, visitors also flock from along the east coast.

Artist Art Lamay, known to many for his artwork for Ducks Unlimited, has participated in the Show for last year. He had this to say about the Show. “I was amazed at not only the professionalism of the promoter.
but the excellent quality of the art exhibited was unparalleled. I've been doing most of the major shows throughout the country and this one ranks right up at the top."

Also a part of this weekend's festival: DockDogs. A news release about that is below.

"The fastest growing sport on four-legs is coming to the East Carolina Wildlife Arts Festival. For the first time in DockDogs® history we will be making a splash in your city! DockDogs® welcomes you to join us for some fun in the water from February 5-7, 2010.

During this 3-day event DockDogs® will be wowing fans with our three very unique disciplines. The discipline that started off the sport is Big Air and is basically a long jump for dogs. Extreme Vertical is the crowd favorite, and rightly so, because it is a high-jump for dogs. Finally there is Speed Retrieve, it is the latest addition to DockDogs®. This sport is all about timing; and requires the dog to take a short run down the dock to retrieve a toy suspended at the end of the pool."
