Southside Student Charged After Knife Found

A high school student is under arrest, after deputies say he had a knife on campus this week.

Matthew Windley of Chocowinity was charged with misdemeanor possession of a weapon on school grounds.

Deputies say on Monday around 10:30 a.m. at Southside High School, a school resource officer noticed a metal clip on the outside of a student's pants pocket as he walked through the hallway. A folding knife with an approximately 3-1/2 inch blade was seized.

Bond for the 16-year-old was set at $500.00.

I've seen boys just like this young man kill Speckled Trout in cold blood!!! Just do an OJ and slit their throats. And you don't want to KNOW what they do to deer. Again, it looks like OJ was on the scene. Oh, and Heather, don't worry about your picture being posted. "Crap" may be an inappropriate word, but it isn't in the "politically correct" taboo department. Crap comes from people of all colors, sexes and religions. It's universal. It's certainly not politically incorrect.

I agree how can you look at a picture and determine if someone is a thug or hanging out with the wrong crowd?? The young man should not have to deal with this. IT would be different if the knife was in hand.. im sure plenty of kids carry knives and other such items to school every day and not get caught! so why is this young man getting all this critism.

I do no think the young mans picture should be on the news!! There is no reason for it. Beaufort county has went to far in situations like this. There is plenty of good country boys and girls. tht carrie knives and other such items. I honestly do not believe he should be charged for this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How in the world can you look at a picture and determine if someone is a thug? Most kids in a rural area carry knives, they hunt, fish ect.. Granted he should not have had it at school but gosh people are hilarious how they are so quick to pass judgement and bring up race with everything!!!!!!!!

I would not feel sorry for this kid carrying a knife to school what was he thinking?? He is not a good old boy this guy is a punk look at him. He is a wanna be gangster hanging around the wrong people. HE IS HEADED IN THE WRONG DIRECTION.... Maybe he will choose better friends and make sure you know what your kids are doing!

Ok. first of all, not EVERYTHING that happens in Beaufort County, or anywhere for that matter has to be a race issue. Regardless of what color he is, he broke a rule, and a law. When the knife was found, it should have been handled in the principals office and the "weapon" should have been confiscated by the resource officer. I know this kid, went to school with this kid, and have been around this kid more times than i can count on both hands and I can assure you that if any of you are looking for people to point fingers at for violence at Southside or anywhere in Beaufort County, you might as well dig a lot deeper than this kid.

I am a alumni of SHS, and I of all people know that most teenage and adult males carry a pocket knife around with them on a regular basis, that is just the good old country boy in us all. However, Matt did know the rules, and it was probably an accident that he carried it with him that day. Posting his picture on this website and announcing it on the news to the world is not necessary, I'm sure by now he knows what he did was wrong. In fact I'm sure that if the deputy had just reminded him it was in his pocket and confiscated it then he would have known what he did was wrong. In fact I am pretty sure he never would have made that mistake again. This is ridiculous, WITN should be ashamed. I'm sure if this happened at NHS or WHS we wouldn't see that kids picture. I'm sorry Matt for all the embarrassment this crap has caused you. OH NO! I said crap, that is politically incorrect, are you going to post my picture WITN?

Keep his picture up there. Mistake or not, if he were black, his picture would be posted up everywhere. So keep his picture up!!!!

He is 16 yrs old! He is considered an adult! I know his mom and dad and I just hate it for him, b/c hes dad sometimes "flies off the deep end' without listening to the whole story... Im sure it was an honest mistake BUT the rules remain the same this I know however, hes NOT a troubled young man...I just hope when he goes to court that the judge wont be to hard on him...He is NOT a drug dealer, rapeist, murderer, or child molester...however Ive seen when the judge has given these type of ppl PROBATION and let them walk out of the court room...so its only fair for the judge to give this young man probation and let him go on home and return to school....

I agree with an earlier post. His picture should be removed immediately!! I'm pretty sure this was an honest mistake!!
