Crews have cleared the accident scene where Broad Creek Rd. meets River Rd. in Washington. The intersection is known as the "Y." Troopers say a small SUV and a school bus collided there at 7:49 a.m. Tuesday.
A spokesperson for Beaufort County Schools says eight children and the driver were on board when the accident happened. No one was transported to the hospital for medical treatment. Officials say the accident involved School Bus 266 from John Cotten Tayloe Elementary School in Washington. Parents have been notified, according to the school system.
Troopers say the bus had stopped to pick up children and had its lights flashing; however, the driver of the SUV ran into the back of the bus.
The Highway Patrol has not released the SUV driver's name but says the person is being charged with failure to reduce speed.
Dispatchers say the Highway Patrol along with crews from the Bunyan Fire Department and Broad Creek EMS responded to the accident.
