From Frozen Fountains To Cold Car Washes, People In The East Deal With The Cold Weather

Since this is the first time in 2010 we're having to deal with frigid temperatures we wanted to head out and see how those in Eastern Carolina are coping with the cold.

For one Beaufort County Family winter is marked by their fountain frozen over in the front lawn of their home in Washington on Clark's Neck Road.

Every year it happens and every year they have fun with it. One year the owners even dyed it pink. Linda Stroud says everybody drives by and laughs. Her strategy for keeping warm, staying inside and if she has to stray outside bundle up.

Stroud wasn't the only one outside today, we found others really braving the cold in Beaufort County and washing their cars. Washers told us, they had no other option, it needed to get done.

I think it is a nice change for NC to get an Artic Freeze. I hope it snows & our ponds freeze over. When I was a child in the 1960's in Morris County , New Jersey we would could not wait for ice & snow. All the neighborhood famillies on friday night we would all get our snow sleds, and would meet to ice skate at a pond behind our houses. Under a bright moon with Orions Belt in the cold winter sky as the wood fires got brighter and brighter. It was just such a great time , to ice skate at night in the cold. I am getting to be an old man now but the fun memories are still there. Enjoy the cold weather for a change , it won't last long here in NC. I hope it Snows
