Motorcyclist Dies After Beaufort County Accident

We now know the identity of the motorcyclist killed yesterday in Beaufort County.

Troopers have confirmed James Michael Harris died after he lost control of his bike on Gray Road, crossed the center line, and slammed into a pick up truck. It happened around 3-15pm.

The truck driver says he tried to avoid the motorcycle but it came straight at him. Authorities say the pick up truck driver was not seriously injured.

-previous story-

A motorcycle driver was seriously injured when his cycle crashed into an oncoming pickup truck.

The accident happened around 3:15 p.m. on Gray Road, that's south of Chocowinity in Beaufort County.

The motorcycle driver was first taken to Beaufort County Hospital and then airlifted to Pitt County Memorial Hospital.

The pickup truck driver says he was heading down Gray Road when the approaching cycle apparently lost control, skidded and then hit the front of his truck. The driver says he tried to avoid the motorcycle, but it came straight at his truck.

A passenger in the pickup was also injured, possibly by the air bag which deployed.

Gray Road was shut down as rescue crews cleared the wreckage and state troopers investigated the crash.

Today is Sunday Oct. 4th and we just heard the tragic news from Ann & Dan next door. I am in total shock and cannot express how sorry i am that i was always "too busy" to take time out and share more time with Mike & Tiffany and your family. We got to know Hayli more than anyone, she also is an honor student at our daughter's school. if there is anything we can do to help out during this tragic time just let us know. In the meantime we will continue to pray for your family.

Absolutely prayers for the Mayo family! But the Harris family is suffering from the domino effect of contiuous lose(s) over the years. Michael Jr.'s dad, Michael senior, was taken away from the family in a similar tragedy in 1997. An aunt and uncle were taken some years before Michael was born - while still in their teenage years - under tragic circumstances. His grandmother passed away unexpectedly 6 years ago. This leaves his grandfather and one uncle on the Harris side to bear the burden of multiple grief. Pray for the HARRIS family also! The Kennedys are not the only family to ask, "Dear God, why us again?"
