Governor Beverly Perdue has appointed Wayland James Sermons, Jr. to the Superior Court District 2 for Beaufort, Hyde, Martin, Tyrrell, and Washington counties.
Sermons will fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge William C. Griffin, Jr.
Perdue said, "Wayland Sermons' broad career experience in law and his commitment to his community have prepared him well for this position. I am confident he will serve the people of the 2nd Judicial District with distinction."
Sermons has been in private practice since 1980 in Beaufort County. He is currently serving as town attorney for the towns of Bath and Chocowinity. He has been an approved Capital Defender by the Office of Indigent Defense Services since 2000.
