Yacht Builder Shutdown Puts Hundreds Without Work For Weeks

Hatteras Yachts in New Bern is closing down for six weeks this summer, leaving hundreds without work.

Normally, Hatteras shuts down the plant for a week around July Fourth.

This year, they have alerted employees they are shutting down the plant from July through the middle of August. It's a six-week furlough, which means the employees will not be paid.

Some employees will be called in to work off and on so they can fill orders. There's no word on how many employees that impacts.

Hatteras laid off 325 people in August 2008, and another 330 in January of this year. Roughly 300 people are still employed at the New Bern boat company.

I dont think that this is the type of job that barrack promised. Me thinks you should be asking all the rich people why they are not buying boats. I believe that the jobs the Barack intends to create will be public works jobs, not jobs catering to the rich.
