Authorities say they found a fake bomb at a high school Friday morning.
Southside High School in Beaufort County was evacuated and a bomb squad called in from Cherry Point.
School was dismissed at 1:30 p.m. WITN's Natalie Kaplan reports most of the students left the high school campus by 2:00 p.m.
Beaufort County schools say all the students and staff at the high school were safely evacuated to the football field when the threat came in. Spokeswoman Sarah Hodges said parents were notified through their alert system.
The sheriff's office says a suspicious device was found after a bomb threat was made at 11:23 a.m.
The device was made to look like a bomb but contained no explosives. Authorities would not disclose where in the school the device was found.
The sheriff's office says an investigation is ongoing to find out who placed the fake bomb and made the initial threat.
