Fake Bomb Found At Southside High School

Authorities say they found a fake bomb at a high school Friday morning.

Southside High School in Beaufort County was evacuated and a bomb squad called in from Cherry Point.

School was dismissed at 1:30 p.m. WITN's Natalie Kaplan reports most of the students left the high school campus by 2:00 p.m.

Beaufort County schools say all the students and staff at the high school were safely evacuated to the football field when the threat came in. Spokeswoman Sarah Hodges said parents were notified through their alert system.

The sheriff's office says a suspicious device was found after a bomb threat was made at 11:23 a.m.

The device was made to look like a bomb but contained no explosives. Authorities would not disclose where in the school the device was found.

The sheriff's office says an investigation is ongoing to find out who placed the fake bomb and made the initial threat.

First of all, Southside High School really isn't a bad school. It what people take the school to be that makes it bad or good. I'm a Senior at Southside and I think that the school isn't bad... It's just some children that come in the school thinking that they're all big and bad that gives SHS a bad name...

It was so shocking like everyone thought it was going to be like a normal fire drill and we was just outside waiting for someone to say something finnally, after a few hours we went to the football field...it was so wierd!.but i really liked how the school and the helpers evacuated us out safley...

All I have to say is that it is very childish for people to do things like that. I am a Freshman at Southside and I chose to to that school because I felt that it was a safe environment, but now that this has happened I really don't feel say in that school anymore. To the person that did that please confess to what you did because everyone's life was in danger because people want to plan stupid pranks and do dumb things when they should be setting good examples for the ones around them.

I think that students need to start behaving better and concentrate more on work instead of how to destroy a school if they dont like this school then they can find something better or quit school. They need to think about their friends and others that they are hurting all I have to say is that i am glad im safe and Thanks a lot to the person that did this now we probably cant have that much freedom anymore!!!! PeaCE OUT

1st of all posting as someone u r not is idiotic. and personally i would rather the school be safer than sorry. No the conditions werent the best and somethings i have heard i am not happy with. but all the kids and staff were safe. the important thing is to find the person or persons who did this b 4 we get complacant and it turns into some tragedy if there is a next time. no one thought columbine could happen to them. there r kids getting kicked out of other schools and they r getting dumped onto SHS and that is not safe, kids convicted of crimes, kids accused of this very thing, bomb threat, and kids b ing followed around by parole officers. seems to me SHS has become a dumping ground for the bad kids no one else will take, and it needs to stop. this is one of the reasons we r having so many problems.
