Washington, NC Native Zimmerman Signs Big Contract

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Ryan Zimmerman has a new $45 million,
five-year contract, and the Washington Nationals finally have their
"face of the franchise" signed for the long haul.

The deal runs through 2013 and replaces the one-year, $3,325,000
contract the third baseman agreed to in February, avoiding arbitration.

Zimmerman will still make that amount in 2009, plus a $500,000 signing bonus, and he can earn an additional $175,000 in bonuses based on plate appearances.

The contract calls for salaries of $6.25 million in 2010, $8.925 million in 2011, $12 million in 2012 and $14 million in 2013. There are no player or club options.

Zimmerman is a career .282 hitter with 60 homers and 268 RBIs, all with the Nationals.

I would probably throw Michigan and Illinois up there to. Most of them are out of their minds to begin with.

Good points Kyle. People from NY, NJ, Boston, and Philly are some of the most ignorant people I know.

Dave, you mean some yankees not all of them! I know this one guy who is from New Jersey but sounds more like he is from Alabama or Mississippi or at least around that region. He uses that word just about every other sentence. I am sure there are others as well. Chris is right on that part about the New England area. Those Boston people hate the NY yankees so bad and that is why. Yankee is like a nuisance and not in the vocabulary of that breed of people.

Dave - If you're from New England and you're a sports fan, it's a HUGE INSULT!
  • by Dave on Apr 23, 2009 at 01:49 PM
Don't you southerners know that being called a Yankee is an honor and not an insult? I mean, afterall, there is a baseball team and a candle company named after the word.
