Car Catches On Fire At Stop Light In Beaufort County

Firefighters tell WITN a car stopped at a light on Highway 33 around 1pm Friday afternoon and caught on fire.

The driver inside the vehicle was not injured but the car was severely damaged. Crews had the scene just outside Chocowinity cleared up in about 30 minutes.

No word yet on what sparked the blaze.

    To Emilie.. Thats okay, I would rather career, paid firefighters do the job.Volunteers simply do not follow the same standards, like donning air packs for car fires. Better yet, properly wearing their gear, and not freelancing.

    i belive that chocowinty fire department done a good job at this fire. i seen a firefighter that had to run about 1/8 of amile if not longer to get to the car because of trafic.

    "To Citizen" you need to realize that our fire fighters are volunteers that have to come from their homes or jobs to respond to our calls. If you don't like the way we do it, you should come out and do it yourself. Washington does not have to cover our calls for us; they are called as mutual aid to structure fires when we need them. While I do not remember you particular fire, I can imagine that if Washington arrived first, it was only because their fire fighters were already at the station when the call went out. Maybe you should quit complaining and come join the fire department yourself and you would realize how things are done.

    it's funny that the Chocowinity Firefighters where there and not Washington. I happended across from the Chocowinity Fire Deptarment. someone needs to get the story straight.

    hwy 33 does not run through washington may be this was a different road or maybe a in chocowinity
