The Washington Riptides soccer teams enjoyed a good weekend of soccer competition.
On Saturday, March 21, the U-12 Boys started the day off with a 9-1 victory over the Kinston Hurricanes. Scoring for Washington were Sergia Higuera (3), Logan Winstead (2), Lupe Barrera, Neill Jennings, Robert Mayo, and Carter O’Neal. William Tate, Weston Brown and Kyle Hodges had assists. Eric Crozier had a strong game on the defensive end.
On Sunday, the top two teams in the Old North division battled to a 3-3 tie as the U-12 Boys hosted the Greenville Stars White team. William Tate scored two goals and Lupe Barrera also scored. Lupe Barrera and Sergio Higuera each had assists.
The U-12 Boys are in first place in the DESC Old North division with a record of 4-0-1. They will travel to Kinston on Saturday to play the Hurricanes and will visit Wilson on Sunday to play the Explosion.
The U-12 Girls had two hard fought games on Saturday. At 1:30, they hosted the Wilson Explosion White. The Riptides jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but surrendered three second half goals to lose 3-2. Scoring for the Riptides were Hailey Harris, with an assist from Alana Jefferson,
and Emily Alligood.
In their second match of the day, the U-12 Girls battled Rocky Mount to a 1-1 tie. Warner Little scored the lone goal for Washington.
On Sunday, the U-12 Girls traveled to Greenville to play the Kinston Hurricanes. The Riptides recorded a 7-1 victory with two goals scored by Alana Jefferson, Isabel Mayo, and Hailey Harris. Grace Giordano also scored. Kate Miller and Katie Thomas had strong games offensively.
The U-12 Girls are in fifth place in the DESC with a record of 2-2-2.
They travel to Roanoke Rapids on Saturday to play the Sidekicks.
The U-14 Boys suffered a tough loss on Saturday to the Kinston Hurricanes at the McConnell fields. The Riptides were up 2-0 before the Hurricanes roared back to take a 3-2 victory. Alex Donadio and Turner Fottler scored for Washington.
On Sunday, the U-14 Boys traveled to Greenville to play the Greenville Stars at the PGSA Soccerplex. The Riptides won 6-0 and improved their record to 3-1-1. Scoring for Washington were Lee Hodges and Turner Fottler with two goals each, along with goals by Daniel Crozier and Alex Donadio. Strong defensive efforts by Thomas Hall, Lee Hodges, Jeff Bennett and Luke Ainsworth helped secure the shutout.
The U-14 Boys are currently in first place in the U-14 division of the DESC. They have two games this Saturday at 1:00 and 4:00 at the McConnell fields.
The U-10 Boys continue to improve in their first season at the challenge level. They hosted the top seeded Greenville Stars Green on Saturday and suffered a 7-2 loss. On Sunday, they traveled to Wilson and lost a very competitive match 4-2. The U-10 Boys will play a double header against the Kinston Hurricanes this Saturday with a 10:00 match in Kinston and a 4:00 match at the McConnell Sports Complex.
