Answer The Call Of The Wild This Weekend

The 14th Annual Wildlife Arts Festival and Decoy Carving Contest is this weekend in the Beaufort County city of Washington.

The event is at the Civic Center, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

What will you see at the event? Decoy carving competitions, calling competitions, artisans and retriever demonstrations. Organizers say nearly 500 original carvings are submitted for 15 different competition divisions.

Around 100 wildlife art exhibitors are expected.

The Washington tourism website reports attendees can also see the unveiling of the original 2009 North Carolina Duck Stamp, and winners of the 2009 North Carolina Junior Duck Stamp Competition will be unveiled and displayed throughout the Festival.

For those of you that enjoy wildlife please buy hunting and fishing permits as well as duck stamps, as this will help promote better wildlife areas in our state.

This is a great festival, the calling contests down by the water are amazing. Every year I am astounded by what these callers can do!
