Practices underway for area high school football teams

July 31st marked the first day high school football teams in the state of North Carolina could officially begin practice.

Throughout the next few weeks the WITN sports crew will head to high school practice fields across eastern North Carolina to get you ready for the August 18th season openers.

first up, it's Havelock and J.H. Rose.

The Rams are under the direction of new head coach Caleb King, who took over for Jim Bob Bryant who won three state titles at Havelock. Also, joining King at Havelock is former North Pitt head coach Brent Wooten.

The Rams open the season with a huge game at home against county rival West Craven

As for J.H. Rose, the Rampants are coming off a 7-5 season but won a share of the conference title after going 5-1 against conference opponents.
