'Wreaths Across America' fundraising for New Bern National Cemetery

NEW BERN, NC (WITN) - 'Wreaths Across America' is fundraising to purchase wreaths to place on the headstones of all 7,517 veterans buried at the New Bern National Cemetery this holiday season.

The organization aims to lay wreaths on the graves of all veterans who have made it to their final resting places in national cemeteries.

Organizers say their mission statement is to "REMEMBER the Fallen, HONOR those who Serve and their Families, and TEACH our Children the Value of Freedom."

The New Bern National Cemetery is the largest of several within North Carolina.

Monday, November 27 is the deadline for all wreath orders.

They are $15 each and can be paid for at Mitchell's Hardware in New Bern on Veteran's Day, this Saturday. Volunteers will be there from 8am - 2pm.

You can also purchase them online at www.wreathsacrossamerica.org. Please note, if you purchase online you will be asked to select which cemetery you're donating towards.

National Wreaths Across America Day is Saturday, December 16th.

There will be a ceremony starting at noon at the New Bern National Cemetery.
