Woman arrested after pit bull and puppy found without food or water

PITT COUNTY, NC (WITN) - A Pitt County woman is accused of animal cruelty after deputies say they found two dogs without food or water.

Deputies say on Sunday they went to a home on South Grimesland Bridge Road to serve an unrelated warrant on someone else when they saw a brown pit bull under the carport. The one year old dog was tied to a six foot chain without any food or water.

They found no electricity or water connected to the home which the community described as abandoned. After going through an unlocked door, deputies found another pit bull, this time a puppy between two and six months old.

Deputies say that puppy was in a bedroom, also with no food or water, and surrounded by a large amount of dog feces. They say the pup was in need of medical help.

While deputies were there, they say the owner of the dogs arrived home. Kimberly Gibbs, 32, was charged with cruelty to animals. Animal control officers took the two pit bulls.

Gibbs was jailed on a $3,000 secured bond.
