NEW INFO: Winterville police officer fired, arrested on obscenity charges

WINTERVILLE, NC (WITN) - An Eastern Carolina police officer has been fired and arrested on obscenity charges.

Winterville police say Deon Bryant is charged with three counts of felonious dissemination of obscenities.

An arrest warrant obtained by WITN claims that Bryant used a messaging app to send pictures of "uncovered male genitals" to three women.

The SBI says Bryant used his position as a police officer to obtain personal information of the women, and then used an anonymous texting application to send them messages involving sexual solicitation and obscene images.

The date of offenses were all on January 24th, according to the warrants.

The SBI says Bryant, who is from Kinston, was arrested around noon on Tuesday.

The police department says while they were conducting an internal investigation, they requested the SBI to conduct a criminal investigation after certain facts surfaced.

Chief Ryan Willhite says Bryant, who was with the department for just three months, was fired by the department.

Anyone with additional information on this case should call SBI Special Agent Chad Barefoot at 984-204-2757.
