Water barriers set up to protect energy sub-station

GRIFTON, NC (WITN) - First responders worked through the night to set up water barriers around a Duke Energy substation in Grifton.

Hugo Volunteer Fire Dept. Chief Johnny Craft says crews worked to set up a water dam around the substation early Wednesday morning.

Craft hopes the barrier will keep any floodwater away from the substation and mitigate damage to the power system.

Hurricane Florence is expected to make landfall sometime Friday morning between the Crystal Coast and the South Carolina state line.

Local officials are preparing for flood levels equal or greater to those we saw across the east following Hurricane Matthew in 2016.
