Washington couple feeds 332 free meals to Florence first responders

WASHINGTON COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - While most Washington residents evacuated, Michael and Chrislyn Wedderien, owners and operators of Carryout by Chrislyn, stayed put to help serve 332 free meals to Florence first responders.

"I love feeding people," said Chrislyn. "I love knowing that I'm making them feel good. There's nothing better than a fresh-cooked meal."

WITN spoke with the couple Thursday night, and they said that barring a power outage, the happy couple planned to be open for business Friday to serve free food and water to first responders and any neighbors still in the area. Our WITN crew chatted with them as they rode out the hurricane on their front porch.

WITN then followed up with Michael and Chrislyn Friday night and found out that they helped feed 332 first responders.

"I just try and bring goodness into the world, one meal at a time," Chrislyn said.

The Wedderien's will be serving more free meals on Saturday.
