WWE star speaks out against bullying at ECU

GREENVILLE, NC (WITN) A WWE star, actor and Harvard law graduate spoke about bullying at East Carolina University Thursday night.

Pledge Purple Week is just one part of a year long initiative to advocate against sexual assault, violence and bullying at ECU.

David Otunga, a former wrestler most known for his role on WWE, was the key note speaker and shared his experiences being bullied as a child.

He encouraged students to take a stand if they witness someone being bullied and offer kind words to someone that may be struggling.

he says for him, athletics was the outlet he needed. "Looking at me right now, you may not realize it but I used to be bullied. It really affected me and shaped who I am today. Anyone who has been bullied, it never fully leaves you. It changes you."

Otunga says this is why he travels across the world speaking to students about the importance of anti bullying campaigns and it is why he was drawn to East Carolina University.
