WASHINGTON, NC (WITN) - WITN's Teacher of the Week is Sonya Roughton, a seventh grade math teacher at P.S. Jones Middle School in Beaufort County.
Mrs. Roughton has been teaching for 23-years.
The student who nominated Mrs. Roughton said, "I picked her because she is nice, cool and she knows how to make math fun by letting us do problems on the board, work in partners and also do activities. She also makes sure we understand and when we need help she breaks it down and helps us to the point we can understand, so I think she is very helpful. She can sometimes be strict but I think it keeps us in check. The most important reason is because she rewards us with candy a lot, like almost every day! Unlike most teachers she literally takes the time to give us speeches about life, like encouraging speeches, that we should really appreciate our free education and when we grow up we will be able to succeed and not have to depend on our parents forever, talks like that. So I really wanted to take the time to nominate Mrs.Roughton."
