WITN's Teacher of the Week: Nichole Hathaway of Contentnea-Savannah School

KINSTON, NC (WITN) - WITN's Teacher of the Week for September 13 is Nichole Hathaway of Contentnea-Savannah School in Kinston.

Hathaway graduated from UNC Chapel Hill and began teaching and coaching volleyball and softball in 2014 at Contentnea-Savannah School. She currently teaches 7th grade math.

“I love seeing the lightbulb come on when they get a new concept,” Hathaway says. “With coaching, I love being able to mentor young ladies and teach them the skills of a sport while teaching them about being a part of a team and what that means. I think being a vessel to help shape young minds is one of the most challenging, yet most rewarding things I could do.”

Hathaway says she was blessed with many mentors in her teaching career so far.

One of the players on Hathaway’s volleyball team nominated her, writing, “She has become like another mom to me, and I am so thankful to have had Mrs. Hathaway in my life for the past two years. I will be going to high school next year and I, long with many other students in my class, will miss her so much next year. Mrs. Hathaway loves all of her students and she has always thought about us like her own children. I hope that she will always continue to teach and inspire other students, just as she has done for me.”

Congratulations, Mrs. Hathaway!

Every week during the school year WITN will recognize a Teacher of the Week on WITN News at Sunrise.

The winner receives a plaque and $100 Walmart gift card. To nominate your teacher, email TOTW@witn.com.
