WITN’S Teacher of the Week: Helen Vines of Ayden Elementary School

PITT COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - WITN's Teacher of the Week for March 14 is Helen Vines of Ayden Elementary School in Pitt County.

Vines received an Associates Degree from Pitt Community College in Elementary Education. She then transferred to East Carolina University for her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education in 2008. In 2016, she received my Master’s of Business Administration Degree with a concentration in Project Management from Liberty University.

Vines has been teaching at Ayden Elementary School for 10 years. In 2013, she was named "Teacher of the Year " for Ayden Elementary School. She currently teaches 5th grade.

“I wholeheartedly believe that once the students enter into the classroom, they are not just students. They become members of my family,” Vines writes. “I love teaching! I am delighted to be honored with such a prestigious award. I believe that teaching is a gift. I have accepted this gift with joy, and I aspire to share it with the world!”

Vines received multiple nominations to be WITN’s Teacher of the Week. One student wrote, “She is funny and unique, and she says everyone should be who they are and she accepts us for who we are. She has the most creative plans for teaching, and class is always interesting. Even though we talk a lot and have fun, we always get our work done. She had a Christmas party for us where we got to wear our pajamas, decorate the tree, and drink hot chocolate.” A parent wrote, “We are a military family and have attended many schools over the years, and she is the best we have ever had in any state! We are so thankful to have her. She has the biggest smile and truly seems to enjoy what she is doing and care about our kids.”

Congratulations Helen Vines!
