WASHINGTON, NC (WITN) - WITN's Teacher of the Week for February 21 is Brandy Council of John Cotten Tayloe in Washington in Beaufort County.
Council teaches third grade at John Cotten Tayloe. She has taught for 19 years and counting. She is married to whom she calls the “best husband ever,” David Council. They have a 14-year-old daughter named Katie and an 11-year-old son named Jacob. “I can’t forget to mention Charlie, our dog, and Marvin, our guinea pig,” Council says.
“Teaching is not something I grew up always wanting to do, but there is no doubt that God has led me to this profession,”Council says. “I look forward to going to work, and I love my students just like my own. I am very lucky to have a job I love, lucky to feel like I make a difference in others lives, and lucky to be called a teacher.”
The person who nominated Council wrote: “She pushes the kids to succeed even when they think that they can’t reach their goals or try to give up. It’s almost like she knows exactly what each child needs from the start. She knows what they are capable of doing and what areas they need help. I can speak for myself and daughter when I say she is simply amazing. We were told several times that 3rd grade is the year things turn around and get difficult. Mrs. Council has made the transition amazing. The things my 8 year old comes home and tells me that she has learned blows my mind (yes, I get quizzed every night). As my daughter says...she has a song or something for every thing she teaches. And it helps!!! From multiplication, to reading and learning about science and history. Not only does Mrs. Council push to see her kids go above and beyond but she treats them like her own. She is much more than a teacher!”
Congratulations Brandy Council!
