WITN’S Teacher of the Week: April Stalls of Riverside Middle School

MARTIN COUNTY, NC (WITN) - WITN's Teacher of the Week for September 27 is April Stalls of Riverside Middle School in Martin County. She teaches in the Exceptional Children program.

She was recognized as a 2016 Teacher of Excellence at the NC Exceptional Children Conference.

Stalls has worked with children for more than 15 years and says she wanted to be a teacher since she was a little girl.

Stalls credits her assistants in the past four years as she has taught at Riverside Middle.

“I love what I do,” Stalls writes. “I find it rewarding to see those ah-ha moments when a student accomplishes something you've never seen them do before. We work, we laugh, and we have fun in my class.”

The person who nominated Mrs. Stalls says she has a daughter who is non-verbal with developmental delays. This mother wrote, “I am a self-proclaimed helicopter mom, but I know my daughter is in great hands at school. So much to the point that I jokingly tell Mrs. Stalls I'm going to kidnap her next year when my daughter moves on to high school.

Stalls is also currently the cheerleading coach at Riverside Middle School.

Congratulations, Mrs. Stalls!

Every week during the school year WITN will recognize a Teacher of the Week on WITN News at Sunrise. The winner receives a plaque and $100 Walmart gift card. \
